A K-pouch (or continent ileostomy) is an internal reservoir constructed out of the patient’s small bowel. This reservoir is attached to the abdominal wall and leakage of bowel contents is prevented by a one-way valve, also constructed from small bowel. In order to empty this reservoir or pouch, a catheter (tube) is inserted through an entrance on the abdominal wall.
